Our History

Founded by Barry Connolly in 1992 Richmond had its modest beginnings, distributing Clearly Canadian, a flavoured water that was popular in Northern Ireland, but which was yet to become popular in the Republic. Richmond then got the contract to distribute two other ‘‘adult soft drinks’’, Aqua Libra and Ame, which established the foundations for the company.

The first crate of Red Bull landed in Ireland in November 1995, but it took three years to become an ‘‘overnight success’’. In 2000, Richmond gained the distribution rights for Red Bull in Northern Ireland, creating an all-island business.

Richmond added Tiger beer to its portfolio in 2000, consolidating its position until its next ‘‘big deal’’ - which came in the form of gaining distribution rights for Evian and Volvic in late 2005. Annual sales of which soon doubled to 30 million litres.

Kopparberg was taken on in 2006 and in 2009 Richmond took over the distribution of Miller Genuine Draft. These additions to the brand portfolio helps Richmond cement its position as Ireland’s fastest-growing beverage distribution company, introducing exciting and innovative brands to the Irish market place.
